TOURISM for TOMORROW announced its 2007 Finalists and one of the finalists for the “Destination Award” is the State of Vermont. Vermont is my home state. ( I lived there the first 18 years of my life and regularly visit several times a year) Vermont is working on a major revitalization effort for many of the state’s major downtown areas. By focusing on a community’s history and historic buildings, it has been demostrated that keeping the downtowns alive builds the local economy and cultural institutions, while supporting growth in a way that minimize environmental impacts (cuts out suburban sprawl!!). Vermont, is indeed, home to many quaint funky small towns and I applaude Tourisim for Tomorrow for recognizing it. Go Vermont!!
